Every independent Baptist church is an autonomous congregation.
We are self-governing and self-supporting. The head of the church
is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible is our sole authority for faith
and practice. It is our desire to be a truly New Testament church.
At Wilton Baptist Church we have one message-the message of
the Lord Jesus Christ, and one ministry-the ministry He has given
us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
It is the purpose of Wilton Baptist Church:
To provide a local, independent church where the Word of
God is taught, believed, and practiced.
To fulfil our divine purpose through:
- Exaltation—Bring honor and glory to our LORD and
SAVIOR Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or
whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Colossians 1:18 ...that in all things he might have the preeminence.
- Evangelization—Winning the lost to Christ at home and
abroad; and
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is
come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.
- Edification—Encouraging and Building believers in Christ;
and
Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together
and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the
effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of
the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
- Equipping—Enabling believers to exercise their spiritual
gifts for Christ; and
Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets;
and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For
the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the
edifying of the body of Christ:
“Your main and principle motive as a Christian should always be to
live for Christ. To live for glory? Yes, for His glory. To live for
comfort? Yes, but be all your consolation in Him. To live for
pleasure? Yes, but when you are merry, sing psalms, and make
melody in your hearts to the Lord. To live for wealth? Yes, but to
be rich in faith. You may lay up treasure, but lay it up in
heaven.” -- Charles H. Spurgeon
